For anything complex the Scenix sucks, I'll totally give you that, but for
doing something simple really really really fast they are hard to beat.
I think that a DCO is a great application that just screams Scenix, oh 
and they make nifty top octave generators too.   I mean, everyone wants a
top octave generator with pitch bend right? :-)

I dont think of the Ubicom/Scenix as a general purpose microcontroller, I
think of it as a cheap easy to deal with slowish DSP.

I did just notice however that Parallax has released a BASIC compiler for
the SX18/20/28... for free...  now thats kinda nifty even though I'm not a
huge fan of even modern BASIC compilers...
( I would *kill* to find an 8052AH-FORTH, or at least a dump of the ROM so I
could try it on a more modern flavor of the 8052... )
