Actually my first thought when I saw this was Pokemon cards (you 
probably have to have kids to get this). Each synth has a super power:

-The Paia Gnome having the super power of being the synth that can be 
thrown the farthest.
- EMS Synthi, you never know what it's going to do next, since no sound 
is repeatable.
- I imagine some synths being defeated because they ran out of some 
rare substance needed for their super power (Curtis or SMS).
- The Oberheim was foiled by the evil Gibson.
- The 2600 did well until it tagged the Avatar to "finish them off."
- The Mellotron had sure victory for the first eight seconds.
- The Minimoog was winning until it wandered off.
