Hi Peter
 I remember being at a Moody Blues concert in--- er-- ah-- ahem,
a really long time a go. Mike Pinder would about every other song
dive under his Mellotron with torch and screwdriver in hand. I don't
know what he was doing under there, I assumed it was the tape drive.
I never played one that didn't self-destruct in that area (I never owned
one of my own)
 I was thinking of other tape drives to reduce cost and increase reliability.
Back in the dim days, the 60s, I worked with avionics computers that had
magnetic drum memories. I just wonder if some thing along that line might 
work?
