Yo,
In defense of my recomendation to use copper water
pipe for bells: the stuff I am thinking of is the
hard-drawn lengths, not the soft annealed stuff.
Unless you are using carbide strikers it should be
fine. I have been meaning to try this for making wind
chimes. Perhaps I will secure a length and try it.
I think the big challenge here is polishing the inside
of the pipe. Any irregularities, inside or out, will
affect the sound of the bell. Perhaps a hone, as used
for honing brake cylinders, would work for course
shaping. Longer tubes will require some interesting
fixtures to keep the extend-o-shaft from whipping and
dinging the inside of the tube.
Interesting challenge...
