Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the 709! 1965 - 2005
If you got a Fairchild marked (uA) device in a can, it could well be
close to 40 years old.
Some circuits like the previously mentioned 'cracklebox' use/abuse the
external compensation pins as part of the design.
