Hi!
I tried to post this once but then my Net access crashed and I lost the
original message, so I have to type this again and because of that I'm
making this a bit shorter...
There are some stuff I did not notice mentioned about sixties combo organs:
-The two classic combo organs, Farfisa Compact and Vox Continental don't
produce square waves. Farfisas produce 1:2 pulse waves (I believe) for their
footages. They also have a feature called "booster", which makes invidual
voices or footages sort of distort, it sounds a bit like fuzz which doesn't
mess chords. Vox produces sawtooth waves for their footages (again: I
believe) and also some softer waves. One of the reasons these organs have
that cool psychedelic sound is that they avoid square waves.
-I have a tube-based Philips Philicorda organ (broken, anybody have a broken
Philicorda they don't need? I need some parts for the organ's keyboard),
which uses neon lamps as dividers. The resultant waveform for each of the
three footages is a sawtooth.
BTW, somebody claimed that dividers can only produce square waves, because
it is "the only binaric (?) waveform", but somebody else claimed that it is
possible to make pulse wave dividers and they can be made from the same
amount of parts as square wave dividers... Does anybody have any information
on this? I suppose square waves can be converted to other waveforms, but is
this the only way to get pulse and sawtooth waveforms from a divider-based
instrument? At least I think that the tube Philicorda organ might make
sawtooth waves directly from its dividers. There's some information on this
site about this, but it's in German:
