You solder 1 internal wire to the tip of your jacks, the other wire is
soldered along with the shield to ground. Works just the same but costs more
for nothing.

Here you have a problem, you either use the shield as a conductor and forget
about "shielded cable", or get the proper cable for your application. Here
you have a problem.
