[sdiy] ultimate newbie question

Hi Alexander,
Welcome to SDIY. If you're looking for a complete synthesizer kit and/or
schematic, there actually aren't that many out there (unless you get
schematics for a commercial synth like a MicroMoog and clone your own... a
formidable task, especially for someone just starting out). A lot of the
schematics you'll see on SDIY member sites will be for individual modules,
rather thatn an all-in-one synth. As mentioned before, there is the PAIA
Fatman and Ray Wilson's Sound Lab, but you might also want to check out the
ASM-1. The official home page (with lots of schematics) is at
http://home.swipnet.se/cfmd/synths/friends/stopp/
IF you want to order a PCB or a kit of parts, you should definitely check
out
http://www.elby-designs.com/
Laurie has kits, schematics and PCBs for the ASM-1 AND the new, improved
ASM-2. Neither one of these has MIDI built in however, so you're still
probably going to be looking for a MIDI to CV converter. The subject of a
simple synth with exponential response (1 volt / octave) and built in MIDI
has come up before, but I don't really know if anyone came up with a good,
commercially available kit.
Anyway, happy searching, ordering and building!
