Best guideline I can give you here is listen to little I say.  I'm known for
making an arse out of myself.

Not sure which module type you're thinking of doing, but you should look at
John Blacet's Midi PIC chip.  It can extrapolate a gate signal from midi,
which could easily be routed into a VCO's reset circuit for sync. However,
due to Midi's clock freq limitations it would more effective on an LFO than
an audio range device.

Did I totally miss the ball on this?
