[sdiy] A few Oberheim questions

I'd love to see what you come up with. You might want to check out another
M6 editor (OB6000) at

http://www.technomusic.de/ob6000/

There used to also be another editor on the market called Matrix 2001 which
began life as an m1000 editor and added M6 support. HOWEVER, none of the
links for this one seem to work anymore.

There are enough differences (internal CC numbers?) that you have to specify
M6 or M1000 so that the program can interact properly with the synth. The
OB6000 info files detail some of this. The Matrix 2001 site had more info,
but like I said, I can't find these anymore. I can send you a copy of the
Matrix 2001 evaluation program (install, should be good for 30 days), and
perhaps there is info in the program. Maybe. One thing I liked about Matrix
2001 was that it had a very simple built-in eight step sequencer for testing
patches. One thing I didn't like was that the sequencer didn't work with the
M6, at least not with mine (something about a "fast edit" parameter,
although I think tried it both ways).

I'll see if I can dig up any more info, but that's all I've got for now.

Good luck with your editor project!

Subject: [sdiy] A few Oberheim questions

Please humor me for a moment, for I have sought the answers
to these questions via Google but haven't really come up with
any definitive answers. I'm trying to write a patch editor and
librarian for the Matrix-1000 and I've run into some questions:

1. I have a request to make the editor also support the
Matrix 6/6R synths. Can anyone summarize what the differences
are between these and the 1000? I know that the 6/6R support a
keyboard split/layer mode that the 1000 doesn't have. What else?
I see some references in the Matrix 1000 programming info to,
for example, an "external" trigger mode for the LFOs. Is this
perhaps a leftover from an external input on the 6/6R that
the 1000 doesn't have?

2. Other than the fact that one is a keyboard and one is a rack,
are there any differences between the 6 and the 6R?

3. The Matrix-12 doesn't really fit into this line; it's more closely
related to the Xpander than it is to the Matrix-6. Correct?

4. While I'm at it, just what are the "15 filter modes" on the Xpander?
