Well, thats right. Don't use them for connecting to the mains, cause you
would touch the power at the metal parts of the normal XLR-connector.

4-pole XLR are used for pyro equipment, connecting the "firing desk" with
the box that distributes the firing current. They are used there, because
no one could plug in 3-pole microphone cables or 5-pole DMX-cables. And
this is where those 5-pole XLRs are used: for connecting lighting
equipment, desks, dimmers, scanners, etc.

The best thing they make for power connections are called PowerCon. They
are especially designed for power connections and come with colour code.
