[sdiy] Newbie question

I have a few gadgets, one is an Exact unit that has attenuator
features, 3 wave-shapes, a multiplier(?), a DC offset knob, and a Hz
range knob. Can this be applied to a synth or preamp or? There is an
ocscilloscope(sp?) as well.

Are there any articles/books I can read to figure this out? I know how
a synthesizer works in terms of just knowing the filters and how the
envelope works etc... I just don't really know how power attenuators
work; all I know is that bernard sumner from joy division/new order
used one :)
