[sdiy] 4017 input shaping - LM324 alone?

Hi there,

Im back on the case of my 4017 sequencer project.

Now im looking at input shaping to the cmos chip.

Ive been looking about at example circuits, and a lot a Ken Stones project, using the same chip.

Now Ken, in particular, uses an LM358 opamp to controll the levels of both the clock and reset inputs to the chip. For one, i wish
to make the enable/disable input also availble from the outside, and also my knowlege is not great enough to understand the
additional circuitary going on the reset input, namely a 10n cap, and then a capacitor diode selection.

More than this actual circuit, im wondering why the inputs should be treated differently at all. Im wondering why i cant just
employ the quad version of this opamp, the LM324, and leave it at that (quad, in order to handle my 3, not 2 inputs)?

I guess i should just add that the inputs are going to be no more than the standard ranges from a 12v modular, and a 606s trigger
outputs.

Thanks again,

Julian
