[sdiy] rotary switches in general

Depends.
Some 20$ ones turn heavy and are open frame with brass contacts.

There is a rather common model that is not so expensive, around $3 and ok.
Sealed plastic, about 3cm diameter, black/white body (top white bottom
black).
Contacts are silver with low contact resistance, available in "break first"
and "make first"
And the number of position can be limited, handy if you need 2x5.
But no more than 12 contacts, 1x12 , 2x6, 3x4,.. (except for a 16 pos
absolute encoder model)

If you need something that is durable AND turns very light, offers multiple
decks (like 3x12) or 24 positions there is probably no cheap way out.

Cheers,
Theo
