Hello SDIY enthusiasts and superstars,

Before I start posting a barrage of "how do I questions" I thought it appropriate to introduce myself.

I built a Paia Fatman 3 or 4 years ago. Drifted into computer programs: Ableton Live, Cubase, Reaktor.

Got deep into Reaktor and started making emulations of MoTM modules. To make a long story short I realized software excells at some things ( samples, sequencers, harsh harmonic content, and...oh yeah...polyphony ), analog hardware at others ( tweakability, naturality, spontenaity, on and on ). Sooo... I bought components pcbs and started building last winter. Thanks to all the good people who take the time to post schematics and sites I have a synthesizer. It makes me very happy.

Here's a list of modules in my rack. (and where they came from ):

2x Synthesizers.com oscillators - I added waveform mixer w/ aux in, Soft sync, and square out.

MoTM-440 Lowpass - greatest lowpass ever ?! It gets my vote

CGS Stiener Synthacon VCF - beautiful. Essential advice: breadboard first

CGS Wavemultiplier - wicked with detuned triangles

CGS Gated Comparator - Oooow blue LEDs. Can't get the 5th out to work

CGS SuperPsychoModulationSource - pretty light show. Needs a positive going out still

CGS Burst Generator

CGS Pulse Divider/Boolean Logic - need more...gets SO much use

Synthesizers.com Envelope - got rid of gate button and added x2 switch

T. Henry Decay Envelope - from drum cookbook

T. Henry Dual ADSR and Dual Decay EGs -

Synthesizers.com Instrument Interface - env. follower/gate extractor. As a audio preamp it doesn't cut it but

as CV source it's pretty cool.

Synthesizers.com VCA - lin/exp switch a big plus

Quad SSM2164 Linear VCAs - Charlie Lamm pcb / from EDN magazine. Excellent. Exp. version is next

Dual Portamentiometer - Aaron Cram schematic. Does LFO, VCO, glide. Normal jacks make it even stranger

EFM MIDI to Gate - So sad this is no longer available. Could have used 3 more !

Dual Joysticks/voltage source - RC airplane transmiiter (works beautifully). 2 adjustable voltage sources

(-7.5 - +7.5 ). Great for turning volume pedals into CV pedals.

Frankenstien module - don't know what call it. I combined parts of SuperPsycho, T. Henry pitched noise,

and vactrol pitched noise from Birth of a Synth site. Basically 6 VCOs from a 40106.

Used a lot for prcusive tones and mod sources.

EFM MS-20 VCF - So much personallity. Could never part with it.

Vactrol SVF - Charlie Lamm again. Great sound ( low end especially ). Complete with output mixer. revesible

CV atten. all built from his pcb artwork. Note: on both this and the VCA pcbs there's no

bypass caps for opamps. I added these real easy by drilling extra holes and tying stuff

together. These were the 2nd and 3rd press-n-peels I've done and they worked from the getgo.

Buchla Lopass Gate - built from Verbos pcb. This is an odd one to me. I'm still trying to get the feel of the

gated mode. I always see these in quads, or triads (?), so maybe I'll build a few more,

see what happens. If you have any tips I'm all ears. Great pcb layout, very spacious.

I hope to have a site up soon but I have a lot to learn about that. Any advice, tips ? I'll be gearing it towards beginners because I fit nicely into that category. It'll deal with things like mixers, comparators, level shifters, and other utilitarian parts. Not too exciting but they're essential and I figured a simple place to start. I'll also try to concentrate on system interface stuff so the modular and my other gear ( delays, computers, mixing boards, etc. ) can become one "instrument".

Cheers,

P.
