Yes. You guessed it.
I'm sick and tired of my Minimoog having a crappy keyboard.
First thought was to just put microswitches on all the keys, but I was
worried about the "feel" as far as when the keyboard would trigger so then I
started thinking about Reed Switches which got me thinking that velocity
would be neat which started me down the road towards magnetic field.
I've got some tiny highly focused magnets. Glue them on each bellcrank in
the Pratt&Reed mech. Sensor behind them although I suppose in front would
work too, whichever is easier I guess. Velocity is easy to calculate. Then
the hamsters in my head really spun the wheel up and I realise that if the
sensor is sensative enough that I can get aftertouch *per key* by simply
putting a rubber or felt strip under the key mechanism to get some hard
resistance after stop.
The end goal is to be able to do this to a pratt&reed mech in a completely
reversable way so that you can get a worry-free no friggen corroded springs
or 8000 moving parts action.
Of course for this afternoon while pondering this ( and knowing that samples
wont ship until at least tommorrow ) I'm going to polish each and every
spring on my Mini. That'll be fun. I think for my encore I'll give myself
a root canal and then step into AH with the declaration "DIGITAL IS BETTER"
before setting myself on fire in the driveway.
Oh, and I have to finish scanning something...
