Well, besides the obvious audio possibilities with this circuit, I can see it as being a very cool LFO driven trigger generating device as well.

Providing the stripboard layout  is a nice touch, too.

I have updated my website page on the 5Pulser waveshaper.  Included are a 
modified circuit schematic, a stripboard layout and some construction 
hints.  The circuit can be a bit touchy, because the comparitors in the 
LM3914 do not have hysteresis, leading to sensitivity to noise and 
feedback.  This can give noisy or even multiple switching unless proper 
design, layout and panel wiring are used.  All these are addressed in the 
new writeup.  Enjoy!
