In keeping with the diy spirit, avoid the hi-fi shop and check out a 
crew that specializes in DIY audio supplies, then you can go for 
"audio grade" resistors and caps too ;)

I've used the kimber twisted pair hook up wire on a few hifi projects 
and it is very nice to work with. certainly far better quality that 
anything my local "electronics barn" stocks. WBT silver solder is 
another "hifi product" that is very nice to work with, although at 
19ga it's not so good for delicate work.
