It was most likely played by Richard Wright. He used an ARP string synth on
that song, but not for lead of course. According to this web page:

http://www.angelfire.com/home/FloydWaters/richardwright/equip.html

The lead part seems likely to have been played on an EMS VCS3, EMS Synthi
A, or perhaps even a Minimoog. If I were asked to guess, I would probably
say it was one of the EMS synths, perhaps the VCS3? This is just a hunch on
my part, especially since I've never even seen an EMS synth in person.
(They were never common in my part of the world.)

As for the particular synth sounds you are referring to, it is the lead
synth part that comes just after the vocoded dog barking solo, correct? (My
copy of the album isn't on CD, so I don't have a counter to refer to.)

take care,
Glen
