If you are going to be doing analog synths, I would say you want a minimum 
of 4 1/2 digits resolution....  4 3/4 is better, you just don't want 3 
1/2.  You need this kind of resolution when you do things like calibrate 
and tune VCO's.  If you don't need to tune VCO's, then pretty much anything 
will do.
