We used these at a startup company I used to work for.  We didn't want
to burn much money on the desks, especially since they were going to
be covered with books, papers, circuit boards and computers anyway.

We called them "doorsks".  In practice the doorsks turned out to be
nicer than proper desks.

You want to use solid core doors, of course.
