If they're small slide pots, they're probably intended for a graphic 
EQ, where the impedance of the attached filter can drop more severely 
at the ends of the throw, so the Q increases more at extreme 
cut/boost.  The API 560 uses them, I think.

They might also be useful as a crossfader, though I'll have to ponder 
on that a little longer.
