Not really. Just use it to initialize some data that is only initialized
once-per-session, or once-per-song. I know of some very expensive organs
that ever-so-slightly randomize the pitches and some other parameters of
their sound, once per session. This keeps the instrument from sounding
stale and predictable after several sessions of use. It's timbre is always
*slightly* different each time you play it.

That's at least one use for very slowly changing data. I'm sure we could
come up with something else, if we thought about it.
