I also agree with this, you do not need to have direct physical
contact with the tranny pair. Remember in the old days, those wire-wound
tempcos were HUGE and with that much mass, you needed to make sure that
it was bonded to the tranny so that the ENTIRE mass heated/cooled the
same.
With these teeny SMT tempcos, they respond a bit faster so it's not
nearly as crucial, I believe. But if you want to be sure, just make sure
that your tranny pair is in good contact with the PCB, that way both the
SMT resistor and tranny pair are following PCB temp more directly.
