I should point that a high-end Pentium chip dissipates about 80 watts
(!!!)  while the roughly equivalent PowerPC chip (used in the
Macintosh) dissipates about 3.2 watts.

My main computer is a 17-inch Mac PowerBook.  It's very powerful and
makes no noise at all.
