[sdiy] new computer

An easy way to do it is to use a good VGA cable (it works up to 40 meters, I
have 25 and it's fine) and extensions for the rest of your needs. If you are
using USB as serial port you'll need USB active extensions, because USB can
only drive 5 meter cables by itself. FireWire can drive 4,5 meters and I
think there are active extensions too.
If you use "old" serial =:), IBM mouse etc, there are extension boxes
available.

This methos is great since you can put the computer in to another room, far
away. Sometime you have to make a hole in the wall and isolate it with
sillicone or whatever, but it works beautifully.
You'll need to extend your audio line too, of course.
Excuse me if all this is too obvious, I hope it helps someone to GET RID OF
THE NOISE.
It is horrible even using the computer for other duties!

Anyhow, the computer produces in my mind some other sort of noise, let's
call it "interface noise". I was using it to compose for many years (csound,
etc) but I can't anymore. That's why I'm here. Analog synths are
real-real_time musical instruments...!

Noiseless,

Fernando

> Remember my deep aversion against noisy fans in the
music studio? Kept me from doing any music related
stuff on the PC so far. I hope this will change soon.
I ordered one of these today:

Can't say if it's worth the extra money yet, but I'm
eagerly waiting to find out. (It will come by the
end of next week.)
