So finally one company does it right. I don't mind soft-synths at all, if
- they wouldn't rely on Windows, MacOS, Linux or any other bloated
non-realtime OS
- came as "switch on and it's booted" and
- with a better user interface than screen + mouse
If the thing inside is built from OTAs or based on DSP, I actually don't
care as long as it *sounds* ok.
Speaking of... Any SY/TG55/77 (or SPX50D, for that matter) users here who
could tell me how to f*ck up a distortion effect they way Yamaha did with
SPX50D and SY/TG55/77? It seems to be somewhat "edge triggered" because
with certain layer sounds the distortion doesn't distort anymore but
rather works as a modest enhancer -- until you change notes when the
distortion will come through for a tiny moment. (And does wonderful things
to drums, too :)
I wonder if that's a problem of a really screwed up DSP programming or if
this could be done as well using a transistor-based fuzz box.
