Funny you should ask that. As nobody seemed to know the answer last
week, I just had to measure it... Mine is putting out 18V~ to the SPS,
primary current is around 380mA at 230V (this may not be correct due to
higher harmonics, but I can't see the waveform at 7.5A/unit range and
the next step down is unfortunately just 400mA), secondary current is
2.7A, conduction angle about 45° both halves of the wave, with peak
currents reaching just about 7.5A.
So it appears that a 50VA toroidal transformer is a perfect, but
somewhat tight fit (they are rated for 2x1.39A secondary @ 18V) and
80VA should work well also, but with a bit higher output voltage as it
would be loaded to just 60% of the rated power.
