For the archives...
Been working on restoring a Rev 2 P5, and replacement 2708 EPROMs, while
still available, are difficult (to say the least) to program.
Thanks to a tip from the lovely & talented Tom Moravansky, I found this page:
http://home.pi.be/~leonb1/zaccpu/e2708.htm
which details a simple method of replacing them with 2716 chips, which can
be programmed by just about any prommer. An added bonus is the fact that
the +12 and -5 volt lines from the Prophet power supply are now
unnecessary; those two regulators can be disconnected, which may help give
the sorely overworked +5 supply a little help.
Note that this applies to the Prophet Rev 3, as well; it also uses the 2708.
By the way, I'm still trying to find a working copy of the files for the
cassette firmware for the Rev 2; either version 6.1c, or version
7.0c. Any help there would be appreciated.
Thanks to Tom & all the other folks on both lists who've assisted me in
this endeavor; I've almost got this beast back to it's full glory (have to
agree with everyone who claims superiority for the Rev 2 -- it's got a
smooth, BIG sound that can't be equaled).
