Ahem... um...  liquid latex might work. It's black, too. Recoat each piece
completely, I guess. If they can be removed, you can dip them in the latex
for a smooth coat.

Hey, I know what you're all thinking, but this stuff really does have other
uses! (We waterproofed a backpack, actually.)
