I'm just digging through my collection of old Elektor mags (again). 
They used this technique quite a few times. For instance, in a 
moving-coil-pickup preamp they paralleled eight one-transistor 
amplifiers (March 1978). In another article (July/Aug 1977) the 
paralleling of four opamps is suggested. The latter article is by "Mr 
Formant", C. Chapman.
