Magnus and list,
Apparently the Tektronix 3T7x and 1Sx sampling plug-ins
(available from surplus dealers) each contain around six tunnel diodes
and can be obtained inexpensively.

Heathkit produced a "Tunnel-Dipper" (grid-dip meter) kit in the early
1960's that contains one tunnel diode plus three germanium transistors.
I have seen several of these at ham flea markets, for about 25-30 US in
the past 5 years.

The back diode (even more heavily doped than a normal tunnel diode) is
still in production as it finds use in satellite receivers. This diode
conducts even better in reverse direction than in forward.
Regards, Mike
