[sdiy] OT: Laser Microphones?

Stephen St Croix mentioned laser mics in his Mix magazine editorial about a
year ago.  He was trying to use them on drums, using something reflective on
the drumheads.

He spent most of the column building up the technology, only to come to the
conclusion that they sounded pretty bad, probably because it was only
catching the head vibrations, and not the involvement from the shell and
resonant head.

Still, the thought of a laser ribbon mic is intriguing.
