I put together a PLL that follows a VCO for at least 5 octaves, does
frequency multiplication and provides square wave outs at 12x, 6x, 4x, 3x,
2x, 1.5x, and 1x of the VCO's frequency. I was surprised by how quickly
it can follow a changing VCO's frequency. Uses a 4046 and a few 4027 JKs.
I use it most often to generate a perfect 5th from the input.

I've also read of Wiard's WoggleBug which does things with the PLL's VCO
control voltage, such as output it as audio IIRC.
