[sdiy] which oscilloscope?

So, what are some of the recommendations for someone getting into DIY
and wanting/needing a scope. I guess my general feel with equipment is
that I'd rather buy once and be done even if it means laying out more
cash and having some growing pains at first as I'm flooded with more
options then I may need. I've poked around on ebay and there seems some
pretty reasonable deals but I really don't know what I'm looking at.
Recommendations?
