Most motorized faders are (as you say) 10k but it is easy to hook it up
as an ordinary pot (voltage divider) and control any VC parameters.
There are nice motorized potentiometers too, for the best ones (and most
expensive!), check out Penny+Giles.

I think most motorized pots and faders use ordinary electric motors and
some form of gearbox or gear reduction and pullys or screws to move the
viper along the resistive track and are quite easy to drive with a
simple H-bridge ic or a H-bridge made out of a couple of transistors and
diodes.
