Environmental, Concept and "Subscription Modules"
Howdy!
This thread touches on a thought I've had for some time about
Concept modules with a built-in modem and phone jack in the back...
Imagine a module called WALL STREET featuring rows of output jacks
that present control voltages reflecting the actual realworld
realtime status of parameters such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average,
and other stocks. You could have a whole smorgesboard of outputs
for the stocks and stock exchanges of your choice:
the NASDAC, Apple, Microsoft, spyders, etc.
I've entertained the idea of posting such live information
automatically on a page at my website, and equipping such modules
with built-in modems that could automatically log onto that special
web page to update themselves periodically.
"I'm sorry I couldn't call because my modular was on the phone!"
If one were to get really diabolical or "Bill Gates" about it,
one could charge for a monthly ~subscription~ to such modules...
"The modules are free, but the they won't do anything without
your credit card number!" LOL!
Perhaps a more nurturing application of this is the concept of
"Green Voltages" With a Module titled MOTHER EARTH that might
feature rows of output jacks featuring the present rate of
Global Warming, seismic activity, ocean currents, missing ozone,
etc...
Imagine a limited edition dedicated to the US 2004
presidential election (Yikes!)
The possibilities are endless!
I recently saw a company manufacturing an entire modem built
right into the space inside the phone jack itself.
so this sort of idea is not so far fetched.
As you were!
