The 200's claim to fame was it's depth of voltage control and with that of
course, the large stable of dedicated control modules. Nobody gave you the
same options.
As far as the signal generators, its additive synthesis was also very
distinct. As the sound modifiers go, it was all about the lowpass gates and
his frequency shifter. It should be noted though that the lowpass gates
perform best when used with Buchla EGs, or other envelopes capable of the
same non linear operation.
The bandpass filters were interesting, but not all that unique timbrally
when compared to those of other manufacturers
