[sdiy] crackle box

Hi Caleb..I actually built a small run of crackle boxes with a view to
selling some.
I did manage to do the latter for a couple of customers until Steim politely
asked me to stop! Apparently they are planning a re-issue of the crackle
box. Funny cos I sent loads of emails to them BEFORE I started making the
boxes asking them if they were happy with this. I didnt get a single reply
(certainly none from Michael Waisviz ). Then when I started selling a few of
them ..they woke up I guess. In anycase there has been a rumour running for
years about a re-release but nothing has happend to date to my knowledge.

Anyway regarding your question about the touch pads. They are literally just
brass/metal contacts wired directly to the circuitboard. These are designed
to form feedback loops etc for the circuit ..using the capacitance
/resistance of the body to
affect an opamp that is operating in a non-linear region. You can use brass
tacks used in upholstery. I used brass mirror fixing screws with domed
heads. Their larger surface area allows you more subtle 'control' in the
sound by moving the fingers and changing the pressure of touch.

hope this helps

cheers
steve thomas
