I use the MSP430 at work.  I like it a lot.

It is very low power, 16 bit, awakes quickly from power down, the I/O is
flexible and interrupt capability very good.  If you want to extend it you
need use I2C/SPI techniques.

The 1 cyc. 16 bit mult is a great feature and i have imagined quite a few
uses for it (MIDI/DCO/FILTER).

As well as it is performing in my RF metering application, musical
application has so far always expanded to require alternate platform
choices.
