Well...

I got it working, made one and this time, front to back registration is off
a tad.  It took an hour to etch properly (too weird).  BUt, as Harry
mentioned, I had to use Radio Shack shy-it because Frye's was out.

What I found to work:  If the temporature is too hot, it just melts the
image.  So, the demarcation line between steam and no steam on my iron seems
to do it but -

TONS OF PRESSURE.  Test the strength of the table your ironing on.  I had a
bunch of bits and pieces of the image not transferring until I buckled down
and PUSHED.  Then it shut up and behaved itself.

So, I've got more of the 'blue stuff' with the image i need on it, and one
more piece of double sided laminate.  I'm going to take a few hours break
and go at it, one more time.
