[sdiy] function generation

I am planning to try out Tom's 8038 design, too, for some additional
non-critical VCOs.
I'll let you all know how it works out for me as well.
I'd also like to try that hack from Electronotes that suggested feeding
a constant current source into the symmetry pins 4 & 5 - anybody have
experience with that?
Running the 8038 single ended off of one rail instead of +/-15 does make
alot of difference in heat generation - it barely gets warm when run on
one rail. One oddity with the 8038 is that you have to push the control
voltage slightly above Vcc to realize a decent sweep range - Tom's
design does seem to address that as well as invert it so that freq rises
with voltage as we're used to.
