[sdiy] function generation

The 8038 is generally only suitable for pitch non-critical
applications....in other words, not suitable for your main VCO. The Terry
Michael's (ASM-1) vco core is much more suitable for pitch
generations. However, there is nothing wrong with using the 8038 in other
oscialtor applications. You just have to keep in mind that it is not easy
to make it an exponential oscillator.

Also the XR2207, XR2206 and several other IC oscillators are not suitable
for pitch sources either. The only IC oscillator chips that were made that
will work as pitch sources are the Curtis 3340 (and derivatives) (out of
production, by the way) and the SSM ...what was that now...the SSM2030 I
think (also out of production).
