It is a one-trick-pony, just doing matrix multiplications. Great if 
your world consists of just matrices. There have been at least three 
attempts at commercializing dedicated matrix machines with similar 
claims to achievable speedups over general purpose or digital signal 
processors (at their respective) and similar relative price points and 
they all failed. Interestingly enough I seem to remember that this 
particular optical concept was first peddled towards the 10-GBit packet 
routing market, which almost disappeared overnight.
