Hi Michael --

Interesting work, thanks for taking the time to post your results.

Your project is somewhat related to a waveshaper idea I have been working
on. My waveshaper will use an LM3914 also. It will be driven by a 0-1 V
sawtooth (audio). The voltage across the divider chain will be varied from
5 V to 1 V by a control voltage. The odd-numbered outputs will be summed
to drive a comparitor. This will yield a train of pulses, with a single
square wave when the CV is at 5 V, and with 5 pulses when the CV is at 1
V. I guess you could call it a pulse-number generator. The lowest
harmonic in the spectrum will be 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, depending on the CV.

It seems you might be able to use a similar technique for your
shaper, controlling the voltage on the resistor chain rather than using
the divider/multiplier arrangement.

Let me know what you think!

   Ian
