Grant -

Swing (at a first approximation) takes a pair of eighth notes and turns them into a quarter note/eighth note triplet combination.  The first eighth note in the pair is held a little longer than it should be, and the second is delayed and shortened.  Count 1-2-3, 1-2-3, etc.,  then tie the 1 and 2 together, and you'll get a rough feel for it....

That was likely confusing....
