This is the final hint that the 1000 Ohms per volt was just a
requirement of a certain "quality" of the meter they used.

10V range with 10kOhms, or 20V range with 20kOhms,
not much difference.
"Just don't use a meter with 100 Ohms" - that's the basic
message.
Your modern meter's impedance will be fine. But
the frequency response might or might be not ...
