There (at least) used to be something called "glyptol" (spelling?) that was
used years ago. A blob on the trimmer would hold it still. The substance
would harden so that if another adjustment is needed, it just cracks and
allows the screw to turn. I've seen it on resistor trimmers, trim caps and
inductors with tunable slugs. I don't know if it's still made anymore. I
think it was blue or green in color.
