Yeah, sounds like mLan.  Apple are integrating mLan into OSX in the next
(or current) version.  Sadly the impact of mLan has not been as great as
some might have hoped.  But its neat to hook a Yahama digital mixer up to
a Firewire port and treat it as a "sound card" :-)

There _are_ mLan interface chips out on the marketplace, so go hunting and
see what you find (from memory they do mLan<-->MIDI or mLan<-->audio
chips).
