Definitely a fun little project board for anyone interested in interfacing
signals FROM an analog source TO midi.
The Doepfer CTM (Contact To Midi) is nothing more than the midi controller
board from their keyboards, which they sell as a stand-alone product. It
has 64 inputs (ribbon) on one end, and midi outs on the other. Please see
the Doepfer page for details:

I was using it a year or so ago to convert pulses from the modular to midi
ON/OFF notes, something it does very well. By gating it's COMMON signal
through an analog switch and then using an analog signal to open and close
the VC switch, you will get midi notes out, the pitch of which depending on
which of the 64 key inputs your analog switch output is routed to. You
could easily incorporate an 3916 or something simular to introduce another
variable to determine WHICH midi note was being fired based on the
amplitude of the incoming signal to the VC switch.
Anyway, it cost me $100, I'm selling this for $35 - there are a couple of
fires hanging off of it, one for connect to it's ground, and another to it's
COMMON signal, which is the 'money; for making it do it's thing.
A million and one uses, including rigging up something in which to control
lights with your analog system.
I take paypal - buyer must pay shipping. Contact me off-line.
best,
Peter
